The standards for active and passive infrared detection systems for automobiles (GB/T 43250 and GB/T 43249) were officially released

Recently, the State Market Supervision and Administration Bureau and the National Standardization Administration Committee have issued the announcement that the two national standards of "GB/T 43249-2023 Automotive Passive Infrared Detection System" and "GB/T 43250-2023 Automotive Active Infrared Detection System" have been approved and published, and will be implemented on November 27, 2023.

1. What is Infrared Detection Technology?

Infrared detection technology is a military reconnaissance technology that uses infrared detection instruments to find and locate targets. According to different infrared radiation sources, infrared detection can be divided into active infrared detection and passive infrared detection.


Active infrared detection emits infrared signals (usually near-infrared) to illuminate the scene, and then uses a receiver to sense the reflected infrared radiation from the environment and generate an image. This technology has the characteristics of good observation effect, high target brightness, large field contrast, clear imaging, etc., but has a relatively narrow detection range, is easily interfered with strong light sources, and may easily expose the detection location. When organizing reconnaissance, it is usually necessary to use other means for long-distance search to find targets before using active infrared night vision devices for identification at close range.

Passive infrared detection does not actively emit infrared signals but passively receives the infrared radiation emitted by target objects (usually mid-to-long wave infrared) and converts it into electrical signals to generate required thermal images. People can obtain target characteristic information based on thermal images. Passive infrared detection has the characteristics of not relying on infrared light sources or daylight, good concealment, little impact by weather conditions, etc., but has relatively blurred imaging and low resolution for distinguishing details.

2. Application of Infrared Detection Technology in Intelligent Driving
